Emirates Airline is the national airline of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and operates over 2,400 passenger flights per week from its hub in Dubai International Airport Terminal 3, in 105 cities in 62 countries on six continents. The company also operates three of the ten world's longest commercial non-stop flights from Dubai to Los Angeles, San Francisco and Houston. Emirates is a subsidiary of Emirates Group, which employs over 50,000 people and is wholly owned by the Dubai government directly under the Investment Corporation of Dubai. Cargo activities are undertaken by the Emirates Group Emirates Sky Cargo Division.
During the mid-1980s Gulf Air to back its services to Dubai. Emirates operates a mixed fleet of Airbus and Boeing wide-body aircraft to operate and is one of only nine airlines flying to all wide-bodied aircraft fleet. The heart of the airline's fleet is the Boeing 777 Emirates has orders for 90 Airbus A380 with 12 of them already in operation and became the second operator of the Airbus A380-800 to Singapore Airlines, when its first aircraft on 28 was served on July 2008. Emirates has won numerous awards and is an industry standard for aircraft purchases bellwether, purchasing over 130 aircraft in 2007 alone.
The Emirates airline is one of the top 10 carriers worldwide in terms of revenue passenger kilometers and is now the largest airline in the Middle East in terms of revenue, fleet size and passengers than in 2007. In 2010, the airline's sixth largest airline in the world in terms of international passengers carried and flown largest in the world in terms of international scheduled passenger-kilometers. The Emirates airline has also flown the seventh largest in terms of scheduled freight tonne-kilometers.
Emirates has built a strong brand name as a trendsetter in the aviation industry, particularly in relation to service excellence, with consistent profitability. In 2010, the eighth best airline Emirates was voted the world through research consulting firm Skytrax.
